Lightning Season Winding Down

Here's a plot of daily lightning strike totals, through July 26th (top) in Alaska Fire Services Tanana Zone (bottom), which covers nearly all of Interior and northern Alaska. The collapse in daily strikes in mid-July is quite common.

  1. Hi,
Did Deering really record 1F yesterday. All the weather sources are showing the same temperature for this location. If so, winter must be on its way

  2. That is what Deering is reporting (still) and is completely bogus. Deering is an unaugmented ASOS. +1F in July at Deering, at sea level next to Kotzebue Sound, would be a physical impossibility.
