Thin high cloud cover can and often does develop purely as a result of meteorological factors. I suppose it's also possible that sometimes you are viewing cloud layers that are related to dispersed high-altitude moisture from an accumulation of contrails over hours or days.

I would not be at all surprised if high cloud cover has increased in recent decades, perhaps related to increased air traffic or other global changes, but I readily admit I'm not familiar with the science (if any) on this topic. It would be a worthy topic for investigation.
Richard Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08313902028896263276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-44690444562710142842018-10-02T11:22:53.838-08:002018-10-02T11:22:53.838-08:00I should also add that I'm unable to use the &...I should also add that I'm unable to use the "Notify me" feature to be alerted of any reply you may make. However, I can't help myself and must ask, do you have any idea why so many high altitude aircraft fly across our sky and leave a trail that does not dissipate?

I'm quite familiar with what a 'contrail' is and am not asking about condensation in the upper atmosphere. Whatever this is it creates almost a thin cloud like cover over wide areas here in (The Mat-SU) my part of the state. This ceiling actually causes the area to experience warmer weather during the overnight hours as opposed to clear skies overnight.

I might add that this is not something I've only recently noticed, this has been ongoing for at least 10 years in this large area. Any thoughts or comments you may have about this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ard Stetts Ard Stettshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13559878149462551123noreply@blogger.com
