Both very major events in the Pacific basin. I'll have to look at that more closely.Richard Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08313902028896263276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-20843511779128096902016-02-27T12:31:30.681-09:002016-02-27T12:31:30.681-09:00Another perspective on Barrow and adjacent sea ice...Another perspective on Barrow and adjacent sea ice:

http://www.newsminer.com/features/sundays/alaska_science_forum/the-many-signs-of-climate-change-in-the-far-north/article_be3f0724-dcfe-11e5-a8d1-cb88757431aa.html

GaryNL7Yhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15874712728971005352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-60255421759645830602016-02-26T13:28:24.561-09:002016-02-26T13:28:24.561-09:00Looking at the 1 and 3 month lags, there seems to ...Looking at the 1 and 3 month lags, there seems to be huge bumps at the 1977 regime change and the 1998 El Nino. This would imply that something was happening related to those two indices. If you regressed the lags against known atmosphere indexes, what do you get? This might also help in deciphering what is happening.

I'm not so sure that I trust the reanalysis right around the north pole. It always looks fishy. Though I would agree that the channel of reduced variance through the arctic is real. We've seen a increase in pressure within the region. How would this affect the variance?

One thing that little studies like this show is that there is so much left to still study and that we simply don't know. So I think your job is fairly secure.Eric Lundellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17914784378747801359noreply@blogger.com
