The circulation pattern was to blame, and I have no idea if that can be linked to Pinatubo (I doubt it).Richard Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08313902028896263276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-15567340231755777872022-10-03T19:25:43.170-08:002022-10-03T19:25:43.170-08:00 ....This occurred on June 15, 1991 largest erupti... ....This occurred on June 15, 1991 largest eruption in a long time...- Carl RolandAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-68631884814173220982022-10-03T19:21:22.396-08:002022-10-03T19:21:22.396-08:00It's worth remembering the reason for all of t...It's worth remembering the reason for all of this cold: the volcanic eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Phillipinnes, which temporarily but measurably cooled the global temperature, I believe.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-65275971601762412042022-09-28T17:53:55.992-08:002022-09-28T17:53:55.992-08:00Indeed! Yes, it's interesting that very little of the state escaped the cold: Sep 1992 was the coldest September on record for all NCEI climate divisions except the Aleutians, and for most of the state it was easily the coldest.Richard Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08313902028896263276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-66322302422119030712022-09-28T09:11:14.373-08:002022-09-28T09:11:14.373-08:00Quite a cold snap. Looking at station histories it sure sticks out like a sore thumb for the central interior, with a less extreme, but notable cold snap almost statewide, including SE. <br />I noticed Gulkana was down to 2F on the 23rd, an honorable mention?Jim Greenhttp://williwaw.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-13172361885220334622022-09-27T13:12:36.612-08:002022-09-27T13:12:36.612-08:00Thanks Gary, I'm sure that event is etched in ...Thanks Gary, I'm sure that event is etched in the memory of more than a few long-time residents.Richard Jameshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08313902028896263276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572286363399496963.post-18770114271758186212022-09-27T08:46:46.113-08:002022-09-27T08:46:46.113-08:00I recall that 1992 event. I threw lake water on the plane to get rid of the snow and ice then heated the engine with an electric heater so it would run. Once in a lifetime experience not to be repeated. Garynoreply@blogger.com
