North Slope Heatwave
Temperatures soared into the 60s and 70s on the North Slope Thursday. The high of 66ºF at Barrow was one degree from the record high for June 13th. Other near coastal sites were in the 60s, with Wainwright at 68ºF and Deadhorse at 61ºF. As you would expect, it was even warmer inland. Atqasuk and the Umiat RAWS reported a high of 75ºF and up at Anaktuvuk Pass the high was 72ºF.

With temps in the '60's at Umiat this week, I'd like to have the DEET mosquito repellant concession and a cool aid stand up and running.
ReplyDeleteThose North Slope bugs can easily make headway in a 15 mph wind as I vividly recall.
Wear white clothing and face your work partners from an upwind position whenever possible...the bugs will cover them and not you.
