The first 40 below temperatures of the season occurred overnight in the northern Interior. Some low temperatures through 5am Tuesday include 44 below at Arctic Village, 43 below at the Coldfoot SNOTEL and 40 below at Chalkyitsik RAWS (half way bewteen Chalkyitsik and Fort Yukon)
Bettles also recorded -40 last night. Why isn't eastern Canada as cold at this time of the year?

ReplyDeleteNot sure what you mean by eastern Canada, but if you mean the eastern Arctic, like Baffin Island area, there is a ridge aloft along about 50W that is bringing south winds and warmer air to Baffin Island area, plus lots of open water still.
