The central pressure of the storm is 984 mb, which is quite strong but certainly not record-breaking for this location and time of year. The August record for low pressure in the area 65-90°N, 140-180°W is 971 mb, according to the 1948-present global reanalysis; this was observed in 1975.

THE COASTAL FLOOD WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON AKDT TODAY.
* WAVES AND SURF...SEAS OF 10 TO 12 FEET BREAKING OFFSHORE AND
FORCING WATER ASHORE.
* WINDS...WEST WINDS GUSTING AROUND 35 MPH TURNING SOUTHWEST BY NOON. WINDS GRADUALLY DIMINISHING.
* TIMING...THE STORM SURGE PEAKED THURSDAY EVENING AND WILL
CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY DIMINISH.
* LOCATION...BARROW.
* IMPACTS...MINOR COASTAL FLOODING IS OCCURRING. MOST ROADS NEAR THE SHORE ARE CLOSED. BERMS NEAR THE COAST ARE BEING REBUILT DUE TO THE STORM SURGE. WATER IS BEING PUSHED UP TO THE TOP OF THE BEACH AND CAUSING BEACH EROSION.
